Who, how, where, what, when?

We answer your questions and take you on your Data Management Journey

Recognising the benefits of data

Data management, data governance or data lifecycle – you have probably heard these terms many times. Data management is a big topic that everyone is talking about.
Many companies are asking themselves how they can better use the potential of their data and increase the added value. And for many, the same is true: Data management can be more than confusing at the beginning. What do I need a functioning data management system for? How do you even get to efficient data management? And above all: where do you start?

We were often asked these precise questions over the past few years. Often, we had the right answers. But we quickly realised that many companies had a great need for thorough explanations. A clear and illustrative solution, a Data Danagement Journey, was needed.

Understanding data management better

So our colleagues Thorsten and Lennart sat down together to define the path of the data management from start to finish. This proved to be more difficult than expected, for it soon became clear: the one path does not exist.
After many brainstorming sessions, discussions and reviews, the first draft was ready and the waypoints of the journey were set. These are milestones that every company should aim for and climb in order to get a good deal closer to its goal: to develop an individual and efficient data management system.

Successfully starting the Data Management Journey – step by step

We even go one step further. It is important to us that everyone understands why they need these waypoints and milestones and should not simply skip them. The start and the basic framework are important to successfully anchor the data management in the company.

For this reason, we are currently working on the individual points of the Journey step by step. We started with the Business Glossary. It answers questions such as: “Where in the company can I find the definitions of individual data elements?”, “Who is responsible for a data set?” And: “How is the knowledge about it documented and made available?”.
The Business Glossary is an elementary component on the path to data management.

The benefits of a Business Glossary:
Clear responsibilities for data elements
Consistent use of data definitions throughout the organisation
Structured and centralised knowledge
Reduction of scope for interpretation

“The Data Management Journey is the ideal format to sort our diverse portfolio of data management related solutions. With this tool, we can determine the current maturity level of the customer in the project and purposefully suggest the next steps.
If clients have complex objectives, such as an increase in data quality, we can use this tool to resolve dependencies and specifically implement the solutions in the project that are required as a prerequisite to achieve the end result.”
